The WSS30V is a complete sump pump system that includes a battery backup. As you probably know, the backup pump is an important part of your home’s flood prevention measures because when the power goes out, the battery backup will take over.

Power frequently goes out during storms and that can be the time you’re most in need of a working sump pump. With the the battery backup in place, you don’t have to worry about power outages anymore. The backup can pump 10,000 gallons on one charge.

Homeowners often add a backup pump to their existing system but in the case of the WSS30V you have a complete solution all in one box. The unit comes pre-assembled and pre-plumbed and can be installed in about 15 minutes.

Recommended Battery for the Wayne WSS30V:

The manufacturer recommends the Wayne WSB1275 75Ah AGM Sealed Lead Acid Battery for use with this sump pump. The battery is pre-charged and requires no maintenance.

  • If your sump pump runs once per minute, this battery will give you 23 hours of pumping to protect your property.
  • If your sump pump runs ones every five minutes, you’ll get 100 hours.
  • If your sump pump runs once every ten minutes then you’ll have 172 hours of protection from flooding.
  • Supports up to eight hours of pumping continuously.

This battery is priced higher than generics and bargain brands but you’ll have the added peace of mind of knowing that you’re using the recommended battery that’s the best on the market for this application. That’s worth a little extra upfront cost in my opinion, when it comes to avoiding serious damage in your home. I have enough life experience at this point to say that buying the best batteries available is generally a good strategy. Especially when you’re talking about powering something as important as a sump pump.

Now that you know what kind of battery you’ll need, let’s get back to talking about the pump itself.

WSS30V Features:

This model has an integrated vertical float switch that operates automatically and reliably. Rated as “ultra-quiet” — you shouldn’t be bothered by any noise coming from this sump pump. The only real noise you should hear is the sound of the alarm that alerts you when the backup pump has kicked in. This alert sound will go on for a minute or so and then the backup will run quietly.

It’s important to know exactly when the backup sump pump starts running so that you can monitor battery life. In the event of a power outage it’s important to keep an eye on your charge level. If you live in an area with frequent outages and your backup pump gets put to heavy use, you may want to keep an extra battery in case you’re on backup power for an extended period of time. Make sure you check your charge level on your extra battery.

A LED indicator shows you what the battery’s charge status is. Main pump and backup have float switches.

Out of the box, this is a drop-in ready setup that just needs a battery and about a 15-minute simple install to be up and running. Check valves are included. The two pumps discharge into one pipe at the top.

No vent hold is needed because the primary and the backup are both top-suction pumps.

An important point to remember is that the sump diameter needs to be at least 15 inches in diameter for this unit to fit. The two pumps sit next to each other at the same level, they’re not meant to be split up.

Also, please note that this backup pump will only run on battery power. The battery will sit next to the unit outside of the sump pit.
